Thevenin's equivalent

Thevenin's theorem is a powerful tool to simplify linear circuits. Essentially, we can reduce a potentially very complicated linear circuit into a simple circuit containing only a voltage source connected in series with an equivalent resistance. The equivalent circuit is always calculated with respect to the load of the circuit.

Only two quantities are required to get the Thevenin's equivalent of a circuit: the voltage of the source (Vth) and the value of the equivalent resistance (Rth). We have provided some examples of this process in our youtube video below.
